The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation offers a Master of Science (MS) in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport and Exercise Psychology. The MS program requires a total of 36 hours, including 15 hours of core kinesiology courses (see courses below). In addition to the core curriculum, students will take 21 hours of coursework to develop an area of expertise such as sport and exercise psychology.

Degree Requirements (36 semester hours are required):

  • All students will complete a 15-hour core of graduate courses in Kinesiology
    • KINE 5090 - Motor Behavior (spring offering, 3 hours)
    • KINE 5100 - Research Perspectives in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, and Recreation (fall offering, 3 hours)
    • KINE 5150 - Quantitative Procedures in Exercise and Sport (spring offering, 3 hours)
    • KINE 5125 - Sport and Exercise Psychology (fall offering, 3 hours)
    • KINE 5301 - Physiology of Exercise (fall offering, 3 hours)
  • Thesis students will complete KINE 5950 (6 hours)
  • Non-thesis students will complete a culminating research experienc (KINE 5910/5920, 3 hours) or culminating course (KINE 5800/5200, 3 hours)
  • The remaining 15-18 hours will be electives

Sport and exercise psychology electives include KINE 5135 - Exercise and Health Psychology, KINE 5175 - Social Psychology of Sport, KINE 5185 - Applied Sport Psychology, and KINE 6191 - Measurement and Assessment in Sport and Physical Activity. Students may also take a sport or exercise psychology practicum (KINE 5850) for at least one year while they are in the program. Sport or exercise psychology practicum are available through the Center of Sport Psychology and Psychosocial Aspects of Sport and Exercise Lab. Additional sport and exercise psychology applied and independent study experiences are available. Selection of specific courses should be determined in consultation with your advisor/ major professor.

Departmental Admissions Requirements:

  • Accepted into the UNT's Toulouse Graduate School.
  • Earn a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Earn a 3.0 grade point average or higher on all undergraduate work OR a 3.0 GPA on the last 60 hours of your undergraduate degree OR a 3.4 GPA on your master's degree.
  • Although not required, earning competitive scores on the GRE is viewed as a predicator of future success.
